Dear Rep. Omar,

I am writing to commend your criticism of the powerful corrupting influence of money in our political system. You were right to highlight the sway AIPAC holds over elected officials, regardless of their political affiliation. The comparison to the NRA is rightful. As a theologian whose beliefs are rooted in a benevolent Creator, I reject anti-Semitism but must add I did not find any in your statements. Your remarks certainly hit a nerve, but the response from so many in government, media, and involved fundraising groups only reinforces their accuracy.

Secondly, on behalf of the many lives lost, souls broken, and peoples displaced by the giddy warmongering of a proud oppressor like Elliot Abrams, I thank you for speaking truth to power last week during your questioning with Mr. Abrams. The American public has only begun to wake up to the widespread atrocities committed by the United States government in Central and South America during the decade of our birth. Your grace in response to his anger and insubordination is a testament to your commitment to justice without descending to authoritarianism.

Wishing you the best for a long career in public service and in dismantling the present settler-colonialist power structure that makes up our foreign policy. You will always have a friend an ally in me and in my spouse, who is co-signing this letter.

Om Sai Ram,

Rev. Alex DiBlasi, M.A.
